The Economic Group for Salt Refining

The Economic Group for Salt Refining is a pioneer in the world of rock salt production, as it owns many salt quarries in Siwa Governorate. Especially in light of the low moisture content of salt to less than 1%, which led to an increase in demand for it, especially from countries such as the United States of America and Canada.

What is Rock Salt ?

People also know it as industrial salt or halite, which is another unrefined form of sodium chloride or what we know as table salt,
and it occurs as a result of the evaporation of large-scale salt water deposits such as seas, oceans, and lakes, and is formed at a depth of 1200 meters below their surface level.
Rock salt is characterized by a very high melting and boiling point, as its boiling point reaches 1412° C, and its melting point reaches approximately 800° C.
It is also distinguished by its unique shape and color, as it usually comes in the form of colorless crystals or White, largely equal in size.
The color of rock salt crystals varies to shades of gray depending on the amount and type of impurities present in them, and can also change color to pink,
brown or yellow depending on the method of processing and the geological influences to which they were exposed.

Uses of rock salt

Uses of rock salt in industry Rock salt enters as a main material in sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, which are considered basic in the manufacture of
many chemicals and foodstuffs. It is also used as a raw material in many industries and uses. The following are the most prominent: Many chemicals, for example, are used in the manufacture of detergents, soaps, medicines, pesticides, and toothpaste. Snow melting operations from streets and roads in countries where temperatures are low and snow is abundant, where salt is spread on road surfaces before snow falls, creating a layer of brine that lowers the freezing point of water, thus delaying or
completely preventing ice formation, thus reducing the percentage of Car accidents caused by slips.

[1] Household uses Rock salt can be used in the form of a food additive
in baking soda and soda ash. It is considered an excellent and effective way to preserve foods by pickling and canning them with brine solutions. It also helps to preserve cheese, meat and vegetables for a longer period without spoiling.

[1] Decoration and decoration The primary form of rock salt can be used without grinding or softening it for the purposes of decoration and decoration. Its presence in the ocean makes the breathing process easier and purer, but none of these sayings has been scientifically
proven yet.

[1] Treatment and purification of drinking water Rock salt works to soften hard water, so it works to break up sediment from the edges of the pipes resulting  from the agglomeration of the elements magnesium and calcium, and drains it from The water system runs smoothly. [1] The paper industry has recently relied on rock salt for manufacturing instead of using large quantities of chlorine used for bleaching, in order to protect the environment from the risks of chlorine arising from it.
[2] Energy production requires solar energy and other sources of energy production
Large quantities of salt to maintain the proportion of salinity needed to produce the required energy,
and thus rock salt is an effective option for energy production.[2] Other uses Other uses follow:
[1] Flue gas treatment. Textile and leather industry. animal feed industry.
